Motorola's Rugged i1 Android Smart phone for $149.99

The Motorola i1 is the first machine smartphone for Nextel and SouthernLINC’s iDEN networks, and its Nextel from side to side, down into its strong body and super-loud speakerphone. additional than 24 million people in 24 countries around the world still use iDEN, so Motorola – the only iDEN phone provider – determined to haul the blue-collar network into the future with the i1. I spent a few minutes with one here at the CTIA Wireless trade show and came away with largely positive impressions.

Motorola's i1 isn't completely innovative to the world. It was announced initial rear in March at the CTIA trade show, but at the time, there didn't seem to be a set release date and price. Now the phone, which is described as the world's first touch-based Android phone with a military spec chassis, finally has a scheduled date for shipment on Sprint's network.

The iDEN-capable phone, which will support Nextel's Direct Connect push-to-talk feature, is also one of the most rugged Android phones on the market. The main downside is that it's using an older version of Android (v1.6), and it's doubtful that this one will see an upgrade to Froyo any day soon. But it's still the best push-to-talk phone on the market today, and with the tough shell, it's a bit like having your cake and eating it too.
